Deuce consists of masters Marcel Dettmann and Shed. They both keep a residency at Berghain and work at the highly respected recordstore Hardwax. Beeing friends and colleagues for several years aswell as playing together makes you think that they know a lot about their separate styles and techno in general. Now we get to see this interesting combination on record for the first time and it is a very promising experience. Deuce is one of the best listening experiences so far this year.
The brains of Dettmann and Shed combined creates dark, striped techno only consisting of the bare essentials of great dance music.
Techno duo Moritz von Oswald and Mark Ernestus sometimes makes dub reggae under the name Rhythm & Sound. In 2006 they put out a collection of remixes on their tracks, remixers include Ricardo Villalobos and Carl Craig.
We found this wonderful recording of a Audio Werner dj-set at the Villa in Oslo from February the other day. He starts out the set with Moodyman’s ”I can’t kick this feeling”, really nice Club der Visionaire feeling to the whole set.
Jeremy P. Caulfield is the world-travelling label-boss at Dumb Unit based in Canada and Germany. Jeremy himself operates from Berlin where he host Dumb-Unitpartys at places such as Watergate and Weekend when he is not touring big metropolitan cities himself. A quick search at youtube will show you where Jeremy usually give his sets to a screaming audience.
But on Saturday he will be back in Sweden for the third time to give a set somewhere in the forest outside of Stockholm in a secret location. This great tradition is a sign that the summer is here for real and you can start to look forward to long nights and even longer days.
Check out Jeremys latest mix here or the news of his label here.
This track is a few months old, really good and has a nice video. I love how the vocals changes and gets more intense. You can get this track on Beatport.
Last night we had the opportunity to see Carl Craig in a shelter - full of smoke - on a Thursday night. He really delivered on his great reputation. Three hours of great music in what we will remember as a “private” Carl Craig-set. Maybe not what he or we are used to, but on all levels a great night.
Swedish radio program Ström’s lastest show is about Berlin and how the techno scene has emerged in the german captial. The show is broadcasted on swedish national radio P2 and features interviews with Monika Kruse, Juan Atkins, Sascha Kösch, Sascha ”Apparat” Ring, Stefan Goldmann, Jakob Hein and Tobias Rapp. Very interesting and well done!
Swedish netlabel Astor Bell just put out an EP with Moscow act Wunderblock called ”Act!”. Some really nice tracks on this one!
”This five track EP is high quality minimal techno flaunting innovative thinking and inspiration. Very club friendly but also airy and at times lightweight in its production, due to layers of percussive rhythm patterns. The combination of samplers, synthesizers and real life instruments adds up to something organic and playful.” From astorbell.com
”Kerri Chandler’s plans to use holographic 3D performers in his DJ sets, with virtual projections of singers performing the exact tunes as the deep house supremo plays them”
For this saturday the office guys booked Marcel Dettmann. As you probably know Marcel holds residency at Berghain. Even though Berghain can feel a bit touristy these days, they still delivery very good music. Very much looking forward to this!
We got a message from Adam Lundberg the other day about a new promo mixtape called ”Yannis & Costas aka Oscar Villata & Adam Lundberg Presents Mixaka # 1” by Adam and Oscar Villata. These guys are definitely worth checking out, lot’s of quality house in this mix!
